Sensory Delight
A neurodiverse revelry in sensory pleasure
Touch: the feel of a spoon handle on my thumb. just right. the buttery-soft smoothness of athleta yoga pants like a second skin of comfort the weight of a tired child snuggled up close Smell: the awe-and-oxytocin-filled scent of a baby's head after a bath the enchantment of gardenia bushes wafting their mesmerizing scent towards me an herb garden with its delectation of aromas ready to awaken senses, tastebuds, culinary possibilities Autumn and the flow of seasons: The crisp air the breeze on my face the welcoming relief from oppressive heat the delicious crunch of leaves underfoot sweatshirts and jeans a walk under red-studded trees on a yellow-leafed road Sun-dappled forests: nestled under the expansive forest foliage, ever-reaching for more sky-touch, more sun-kisses, spread in dappled brilliance. Exploring in nature: the buzzing of life nestled along a winding stream I am both soothed and thrilled by the realness of it the life-hum holding me in it's arms completely held and completely free completely myself and completely connected alertness (without anxiety) awakeness (without hypervigilance) soothing (without numbness) calm and rest and awe and wonder and aliveness and quiet and life-sounds this is my place of nervous system magic and delight
What are some of your nervous system and sensory delights?
The nature photos are so beautiful and calming! Nature is one of my happy places, as are bookstores when I can wander, page through books while sitting on the floor between bookcases, and lose track of time.
